In Bakersfield, the parents of a 7-year old who broke her wrist falling off the monkey bars are seeking $19,000 in damages from the school district (aka "taxpayers"). Like so many elementary students before her, the youngster had a typical school yard accident but unlike our predecessors, accidents no longer happen...without someone looking for a payday. Of the amount demanded, $10,000 is for so-called "trauma" endured following the failure to grip the bars while swinging during recess. Trauma? Seriously?
It's time for these parents to get a grip and accept that accidents due indeed happen. The only ones who stand to be traumatized in this minor incident are the taxpayers of Kern County.
