Personal Injury Lawyers' Influence on the Legislature

The Problem

Personal injury lawyers have some of the deepest pockets in California and are some of the most frequent and most generous campaign contributors. Personal injury and other plaintiffs’ lawyers spent more than $4 million in the last election cycle to get their candidates elected. By spending this excessive amount of money on their favored candidates elected they are guaranteeing they will have friends in the legislature.

Why it Matters

Personal injury lawyers count on well-placed friends in the legislature who will promote a lawsuit creation agenda.  These friends help advance legislation that will create more opportunities for lawsuits and more opportunities for personal injury lawyer profits at the expense of California employers and consumers. These legislators also help ensure that common sense reforms to rein in excessive and abusive lawsuits never see the light of day.

Stop the Abuse

Legislators need to be held accountable by their constituents. It is extremely important to find out where your legislators stand on important issues. Tell your legislators that you care about lawsuit abuse and want them to act on behalf of their constituents, not the personal injury bar.

Read the letter sent to your Legislator asking them to protect their constituents, not personal injury lawyers.
